Yelagiri Hill is one of the popular hill stations of Tamil Nadu situated amidst four misty mountains and well known for its salubrious climate throughout the year. A couple of hours travel from Chennai or Bangalore through the winding ghat road and 14 hairpin bends that offer panoramic, breath taking views with the superb Javadi hills as a back drop on one side and the breathtaking sunset view over the hills of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka on the other side adds beauty, thrill and excitement to Yelagiri Paragliding Club.
Yelagiri Paragliding Club was started by a group of individuals which consists of Government officials and Private citizens. After over a years dedicated hard work of theses motivated group of sport loving individuals Yelagiri can now boast of being a top class paragliding site with three take-offs and landing points of perspective heights of 450, 560 and 600 meters AGL, facing north east, south east and south west respectively.
Yelagiri Paragliding Club has identified, prepared grounds for safe take-off and landing. The club is also inviting professional instructors, pilots and people of professional and amateur, commercial and recreational profiles related to the sport, to participate in this gala festival.

Yelagiri Paragliding Festival
Yelagiri Paragliding Club is inaugurating its activities by hosting the first ever international festival on 5th, 6th, 7th of September 2008.
The event will see pilots, instructors and their students, the media from India and abroad come together for three days of fun. With flying pilots and sponsors, Yelagiri could not have hoped for a healthier way to “kick start” paragliding on its majestic slopes. |
Future Plans
After the inauguration Yelagiri Paragliding Club is planning to start a training centre in collaboration will Yelagiri Adventure Sports Association, a registered body started to promote adventure sports like trekking, rock climbing, cycling, biking etc., by mid 2009. The training centre will offer professional training and equipment of international standards. Training courses will last 5 consecutive days or during continuous weekends in a row.
At present India offers two paragliding hotspots Panchgani and Billing. The reputation of these sites has travelled far beyond the Indian borders and every year they become home to large population of Indian and foreign pilots. Yelagiri, as it stands, has everything it needs to become the third hotspot in aero sports and one can be sure that in few years this awesome little mountains’ skies will be filled with colourful gliders and happy pilots.
