YASA - Yelagiri Adventure Sports Association and YPC – Yelagiri Paragliding Club endeavours to promote paragliding in a responsible and professional manner in Yelagiri.

Yelagiri is an advance flying site demanding a high level of competency. YASA has laid down the following criteria to facilitate safe and sustainable paragliding activities on the hill.

CRITERIA FOR FREE FLIERS
1. Pilot requirement
  • Should have a paragliding pilots license OR
  • P3 rating or equivalent from a school that complies with YASA school requirements stated below

Please Note for presently registered pilots with YASA :
  • To continue their flying at Yelagiri, will have to show proof of P2 rating or equivalent plus 25 hours of logged airtime
  • Presently registered pilots with YASA up to July 2009 are permitted to fly up to November 2011 beyond which if they wish to renew their membership will have to show proof that they have completed p3 rating or equivalent.


2. Equipment requirement
  • Certified gliders (DHV/LTF/EN)
  • Safety parachute
  • HARNESS (Certified brands)
  • Protective helmets (paragliding helmets recommended)

CRITERIA FOR PARAGLIDING SCHOOL
EQUIPMENT
1. Certified, Standard training gliders (DHV/LTF/EN)
2. HARNESS (Certified brands)
3. Protective helmets
4. Radios
5. First Aid Kit
6. Stretcher
7. Vehicle

OFFICIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Registered company with the Govt of India, should be able to provide ‘Shop Act’ copy
2. School should be registered with the Aero club Of India/National Paragliding Association within 3 years of registration with YASA
3. Should have conducted successful paragliding training operations for at least 3 years

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
1. The team should have a minimum of 2 (chief flying instructor, instructor) on site instructors
2. Requirements for chief flying instructor – should have an instructors license OR
  • minimum personal flying experience of 7 years and/or 500 flying hours
  • chief flying instructor should have completed p4 level or equivalent
  • minimum teaching experience as a chief flying instructor for 3 years
  • has completed SIV course
  • should be fully knowledgeable of all weather related conditions and is conversant in advance and novice paragliding techniques, should have an impeccable safety record, should be fully aware of all the risks and dangers of the sport and should be responsible and give utmost importance to the safety of his/her students
  • should have trained a minimum of 100 students up to the P2/equivalent level and should be able to produce log proofs of the same
  • should have completed a first aid certification course


3. Requirements for Instructor – should have an instructors license OR
  • minimum personal flying experience of 3 years and/or 300 flying hours
  • Instructor should have completed p4 level or equivalent
  • minimum teaching experience as an instructor for 1 year
  • has completed SIV course
  • should be fully knowledgeable of all weather related conditions, conversant with advance and novice paragliding techniques, should have an impeccable safety record, should be fully aware of all the risks and dangers of the sport and should be responsible and give utmost importance to the safety of his/her students
  • should have trained a minimum of 30 students upto the P2/equivalent level and should be able to produce log proofs of the same
  • should have completed a first aid certification course


4. Training
  • should have a proper structured training syllabus that corresponds to international standards
  • should provide samples of log books, rating systems and printed training material currently used in the school
  • should conduct all aspects of theory of flight – aerodynamics, metrology, flight techniques, airmanship, air law etc.
  • should be conducting theory exams for student ratings


PLEASE NOTE:
All schools recognised by YASA have to inform YASA in advance to schedule their training at Yelagiri.


CRITERIA FOR TANDEM FLYING
1. Pilot requirement
  • Tandem pilot license OR
  • P4 rating or equivalent
  • 150 Solo flying hours
  • 50 tandem flights

2. Equipment requirement
  • Certified tandem glider – logged hours of glider up to 300 hours
  • (DHV/LTF/EN)
  • Tandem Safety parachute
  • HARNESS – passenger harness with protection (Certified brands)
  • Protective helmets (paragliding helmets recommended)

PLEASE NOTE:
Only a limited number of tandem pilots will be permitted to operate at Yelagiri in a given season. Bookings can be made based on qualifications and first come first served basis.
